"The Church asks for no secular protection; it seeks shelter under the protection of God alone."
Our abbey owes a great deal to the faith and heroism of Venerable József Cardinal Mindszenty, a prelate who courageously stood against (and endured much persecution by) the tyrannical communist regime that gripped Hungary for much of the twentieth century. Indeed, many of the founding members of our abbey--who themselves faced persecution for their faith--owe their vocations to the work of this great and holy man.
St. Michael's Abbey is proud to honor Cardinal Mindszenty's legacy by hosting the 2024 Mindszenty Lecture. This year's guest of honor is Ambassador Eduard Habsburg, the Ambassador of Hungary to the Order of Malta in addition to being Hungary's Ambassador to the Holy See.
